Call our practice for advice if a brace or wire is loosened. The brace may need to be re-fitted as soon as possible. You may have a situation that requires cutting a wire or sliding a bracket off a wire at night or over the weekend. Never attempt to cut the wire yourself, always call our practice for an appointment. Please remember to bring any broken parts to the practice when you come in for the repair.
Should a bracket come loose, it is important to give us a call, so we can assess whether it needs to be repaired or whether you can wait until your next appointment
Distal ends are the sharp ends on the wires of your brace that can stick out and irritate the cheek as the teeth move. Wax can be used to protect your checks. Sometimes the wire can be moved, however, if not it is possible to cover the problem end with a small piece of specialist wax. We supply wax to cover sharp pieces on the brace. For hygiene don’t use anything else as the wax is always readily available.
Some discomfort, soreness or pain may be experienced during the first week after your braces are in place and after routine adjustments. We will advise you when your brace is fitted of measures that can be taken to be comfortable throughout your treatment. Again should you have any concerns please call us.
